A teenager in South Carolina has been charged with assault and battery after she attacked an opposing player during a high school soccer match, officials said.
Annette McCullough, a senior at Lewisville High School in Richburg, S.C., was charged with third-degree assault and battery for attacking an opposing player from Chester High School during a match on Monday, Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith told FoxNews.com.
A video of the incident obtained by CN2 News depicts McCullough, 18, falling on the field in front of the unidentified victim. McCullough then gets on her feet and pulls the victim to the ground by her hair before punching her at least 10 times, according to the video.
McCullough's victim suffered minor injuries, Smith told FoxNews.com.
"It's an unfortunate thing that happened to the victim and for the school," Smith said. "We very seldom, if ever, have any trouble at the school."
Repeated calls seeking comment from Lewisville High School officials were not returned on Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether McCullough faces disciplinary action connected to the incident.
Officials with the South Carolina High School League will review the footage, WBTV.com reports.
"Some incidental contact ended in one girl going down and she just got up and started pummeling," referee Alan Parker said. "It's unfortunate, it really is. Contact is a part of soccer, but when you retaliate like that, obviously, there is no place in the game for that."
