Authorities are investigating the killings of three family members in their rural southern Mississippi home.

The bodies of 80-year-old Arvin Smith, 74-year-old Maxine Smith and their 48-year-old son Roland Smith were discovered early Friday. Jefferson Davis County Chief Investigator John Wayne Tolar told The Hattiesburg American that some suspects are being interviewed.

Coroner Jim Slater said an autopsy late Friday confirmed that all three died from multiple gunshots.

Tolar said authorities are trying to determine a motive.

A cousin of Arvin Smith -- Sue Smith -- said that she called police from her home across the street after hearing gunshots and seeing muzzle flashes.
