A North Carolina man arrested over a misdemeanor added a felony charge to his rap sheet Sunday by biting the arresting officer.

Officer B.V. Johnson was called to a home in Raleigh on a report of a domestic disturbance, The News & Observer reported.

Johnson arrested 24-year-old Kwain Hawkins on a misdemeanor charge of assault in connection with the dispute.

During the arrest, Hawkins allegedly bit Johnson's hand. The bite broke the skin and required Johnson to go to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Hawkins now faces a felony charge of assault on a law enforcement officer in addition to a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female.

He was being held Sunday in the Wake County jail on $20,000 bond.
