NEW YORK – The man accused of torching a woman to death in a New York City elevator boasted to police they'd still be looking for him if the horrific scene had not been caught on video.
Court papers revealed at Jerome Isaac's arraignment Thursday also claim Isaac drank alcohol and went to sleep after the alleged attack.
He pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in Brooklyn Supreme Court. The judge refused to set bail.
The handyman is accused of dousing 73-year-old Deloris Gillespie with gas and setting her ablaze as she tried to exit the elevator at her Brooklyn apartment building on Dec. 17.
Surveillance cameras captured Isaac wearing an exterminator's mask and gloves as he ignited her with a barbecue lighter.
Isaac told police Gillespie owed him money.
