A California professor who has been missing since August has been found, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Amy Ahearn, 40, was discovered Friday by the Los Angeles Police Department in South Los Angeles and is being evaluated, her sister, Marjorie Ahearn, told the paper.

Ahearn, who taught English at Saddleback College in Orange County, was reported missing after she did not show up for classes when the semester started on Aug. 22. Her family said she may suffer from Huntington’s disease, a degenerative brain disorder, which runs in the family.

Ahearn’s family, from Illinois, hired a private investigator and organized search parties in an effort to find her, the paper reports.

She was last seen in mid-September in Norwalk, when she was taken in by a family who found her on the street in front of their home, but she wandered off the next day.
