Students in a southern New Jersey school district may find themselves with extra time on their hands on weekends and holidays.

The Galloway Township school district is recommending that homework be assigned only Monday through Thursday and that no more than 10 minutes of homework multiplied by a student’s grade level be assigned per night, MyFoxPhilly reports.

The idea is to eliminate busywork and to give them time for family and extracurricular activities Superintendent Annette Giaquinto told The Press of Atlantic City.

But some school board members are not enthused about the idea. They have pointed out that parents have more time on the weekends and holidays to help their children with homework than during the normal school week.

The school board is not expected to vote on the recommendations until July or August.
