A Harris, Texas, County Sheriff’s deputy is in the hot seat after a video suggests he was unnecessarily rough to a suspect he apprehended at a Target store, MyFoxHouston reports.
According to the surveillance tape, it appears the deputy grabs the woman, slams her up against a wall and tackles her to the ground.
Veronica Gonzalez has filed a federal lawsuit against that deputy.
Gonzalez and her son were walking in front of a Target store in northwest Houston back in June 2010.
The deputy was in uniform, but not on the job. He was walking into the store.
"I don't know. I was talking to him and then next thing I know, I'm in handcuffs. Beaten up," said Gonzalez." He says I resisted arrest and failed to (show my identification), which none of those are true," Gonzales said.
After watching the video, the Harris County district attorney’s office dropped two charges filed against Gonzalez.
In the meantime, the deputy remains on the job.
