Police are searching for the person who dumped the bodies of a mother and her 2-year-old son in trash containers near their Massachusetts home.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the bodies were found after police received an anonymous tip Sunday night.

The body of 25-year-old Maria Avelina Palaguachi-Cela was found stuffed inside a duffel bag, MyFoxBoston.com reports. The body of her son, Brian, was found nearby.

Cruz declined to say whether the toddler's body was also found inside a bag or whether there were visible signs of trauma.

Cruz, who described the discovery as a "terrible crime scene," said mother and son were found near the family's home in Brockton, a city of about 100,000 residents just south of Boston.

Palaguachi-Cela, a mother of three who had immigrated to the U.S. from Ecuador, was last seen alive at her home Thursday.

No arrests have so far been made in the case.
