Church says Mormon missionary killed in Jamaica

SALT LAKE CITY – A church spokesman says a Mormon missionary was killed in Jamaica after he was caught in the crossfire during a police shootout.

Mormon church spokesman Scott Trotter says in a statement Monday that Jermaine Luther Walker was hit by a stray bullet in Kingston while riding in a van with seven other missionaries.

Trotter says Walker, a Kingston native, was driven to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. The other missionaries weren't injured.

A Jamaican police spokesman didn't immediately return Monday evening calls about the shooting.
