LOS ANGELES -- Two infant skeletons wrapped in 1930s newspapers have been found inside a trunk in a Los Angeles apartment basement.

The skeletons, believed to be decades-old remains of fetuses or infants, were discovered Tuesday evening in a Westlake area apartment building near downtown.

Police Lt. Wes Buhrmester says the apartment manager was cleaning the basement and opened a steamer trunk. Two doctor bags in the trunk were opened and the skeletons were discovered inside.

One skeleton was wrapped in a 1933 issue of the Los Angeles Times and the other was in a 1935 issue of the newspaper. There was also a 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games ticket stub in the trunk.

The coroner is examining the remains.
