A heated controversy is underway over the fact that the U.S. Olympic team will march into the 2012 Summer Games wearing uniforms made in China.

The outfits, designed by American icon Ralph Lauren, feature tailored navy blazers paired with red, white and blue ties and scarves. Navy blue berets complete the look.

Although it is not the first time U.S. Olympians have worn European-inspired hats (they were featured in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Games), both fans and fashionistas are scratching their heads. At least one politician has called for the outfits to be burned and replaced with American goods.

Despite the controversy, the U.S. Olympic Committee said in a statement that it is too late for any changes to be made.

The items are available for purchase at Ralph Lauren. The Team USA Ceremony Beret goes for $55 while the Ceremony Blazer will set you back $598. Would you wear them?
