Deadline Extended for $10G Journalism Award

The Eric Breindel Memorial Foundation has announced a deadline extension to April 29 for applications for the 7th Annual Eric Breindel Award. The award, in memory of the New York Post editor and columnist, includes opinion journalism, news coverage and online articles.

The award, which recognizes the editorial pursuit of freedom and American ideals, is open to writers and reporters of all political convictions and backgrounds. All applications have to be postmarked by Friday, April 29.

The award is presented to the columnist, editorialist or reporter whose work best reflects the spirit of the writings by Eric Breindel: Love of country and its democratic institutions as well as the act of bearing witness to the evils of totalitarianism.

The award is continuing its tradition of receiving online articles as well as pieces from magazines and newspapers. Those who wish to be considered should submit no more than five editorials, columns or news stories, per person, written in the 2004 calendar year.

Articles specifically produced for and published by an established newspaper or magazine Web site will be accepted, as will Internet-exclusive material.

A confidential panel of judges appointed by the Eric Breindel Memorial Foundation will judge the entries. The winner will be announced in June.
