An 8-year-old boy has died after collapsing during a youth league football practice in Gilmer County.
Police say the boy, who has been identified as Tyler Maxwell, collapsed Monday and died Tuesday at Charleston Area Medical Center Women and Children's Hospital.
Monday was the opening day of practice for the youth league at the Gilmer County High School Titans practice field, The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reported.

Thirty high school players and head coach, Bucky Stewart, were on the field when the boy collapsed.
"It was pretty sad," Stewart told the newspaper. "He was an 8-year-old playing football. That's killed me. I was there when it happened. Our guys are all going to go to the wake and we're going to put stickers on our helmets for Tyler Maxwell."
