College of William and Mary to Allow Sex Workers' Art Show on Campus

Published January 13, 2015

Citing the First Amendment, the president of the College of William and Mary will allow students to hold the controversial "Sex Workers' Art Show" on campus next month, the Daily Press reported.

"Defining traditions of openness that sustain universities" require to allow the show, featuring performances by strippers, prostitutes and other sex workers, to go on, Gene Nichol said in a statement released Monday.

"My views and the views of others in the community about the worth or offensiveness of the program can provide no basis for censoring it," he said in the statement, according to the Daily Press.

School officials unsuccessfully tried to find a location off campus to hold the event.
