Change is good for a soul — and this week I am embarking on new challenges here at FOX News. Starting this week, I will be anchoring both the Saturday and Sunday editions of "Weekend Live" on a permanent basis — working with my dedicated team of D.C.-based producers and technicians to bring you four hours of compelling television each weekend. I am blessed to front a world-class team of people who care deeply about quality and the news.
Over the past two years, "Weekend Live" has had something of a split personality. Tony Snow did the Saturday show — which was crafted to accommodate his relaxed conversational style and his love of politics. I handled the broadcast on Sunday and over time that show was molded to better fit my up-tempo delivery and ADHD personality. Well, Tony has now moved over to a high-profile government job and I am now charged with bringing continuity to the Saturday and Sunday broadcasts. I look forward to the challenge and will do my best to retain the best of what Tony brought to the game.
It will be impossible for me to work Saturday and Sunday and still cover Capitol Hill effectively, so in exchange for the anchor chair, I am relinquishing the title of congressional correspondent. "The Powers" here at FOX News have bestowed that title on the extremely knowledgeable and hard working Major Garrett. There is no one in Washington more qualified to take on this demanding job. I'll continue to report from Washington three days a week — but Congress will largely be Major's baby.
As we tinker around the margins with "Weekend Live" over the summer, I have a few goals. I want the broadcast to be appointment television — a place where you can check-in to get up to speed on things you may have missed while you were out living your busy lives. We'll try to inform, illuminate, educate — and maybe give you a chuckle now and then (after all, life is funny sometimes and news should accurately reflect life).
On Sunday, we want to spend some time looking forward to the coming week. So, if you watch both shows you will be better informed about what is going on in your world and prepared for the challenges of the week ahead.
I also want to make sure that "Weekend Live" continues to be an interactive broadcast. I will reach out to you on this blog and let you know what's going on behind the scenes. I want you to continue sending e-mails. I spend a lot of time each day reading the things you send me. The e-mails help me know what's on your mind and what is important to you.
I believe the days of the old school anchor who delivers news infallibly from the top of Mt. Olympus are gone. I will do my best to be an honest broker of news and information and will endeavor to bring you insight (if I have any) gleaned from 20 years of Washington reporting. I want YOU to tell me when you think I've screwed up. If you disagree with something I do — or say — let me know. I know I can count on you to keep me on the straight and narrow path.
