The Dallas Cowboys are looking long and hard in the hopes of shoring up their quarterback situation. If you need any evidence of that, look no further than their reported interest in former Browns QB Austin Davis.
According to the Cowboys' official website, the team is expected to work out Davis on Wednesday, two days after he was cut by the Browns. Davis, undrafted out of Southern Mississippi, played in three games in Cleveland last year, throwing for 547 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Davis started eight games with the Rams in 2014, when he showed glimpses of star potential. He threw for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns in back-to-back games but has failed to reach those numbers since. He finished the season throwing for 2,001 yards with 12 TDs and nine interceptions.
The Cowboys have been hit hard by injuries to their signal callers this preseason. Backup Kellen Moore suffered a broken right fibula during practice earlier this month, and starter Tony Romo sustained a broken bone in his back last Thursday, an injury that could force him out for up to 10 weeks. The rash of injuries has left Dallas turning to rookie Dak Prescott as its starter for the time being, and undrafted free agent Jameill Showers as his backup.
Earlier this month, Dallas approached the Browns regarding Josh McCown's availability, but the Browns' asking price and McCown's contract apparently were too much for the Cowboys.
