The New England Patriots are in need of cornerback help, and not because of a lack of talent. They're severely thin at the position, and have been for some time.

In each of the past three games, they've had just three healthy cornerbacks on the gameday roster, led by Malcolm Butler.

On Monday, they took a step towards possibly adding another player at cornerback. According to NESN, the Patriots worked out former Tampa Bay Buccaneers corner Leonard Johnson.

Johnson started 17 games for the Buccaneers since coming into the league as an undrafted free agent with Tampa Bay in 2012. He recorded 148 tackles, five interceptions and 20 passes defensed. He also scored two defensive touchdowns and forced five fumbles in that span.

Johnson was released from Tampa Bay's injured reserve list last week.
