On the day of the NFL's trade deadline, All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson made it clear that his job is not done in Detroit. After nine seasons with the Lions, he's still driven to deliver the franchise its first Lombardi Trophy, according to team columnist Mike O'Hara.
The Lions have been long shots to win the Super Bowl since Johnson joined the team as the second-overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. The closest he has come to tasting that type of success has come in stray playoff appearances after the 2011 and 2014 seasons. Detroit dropped both of those Wild Card clashes, so Johnson doesn't even know what it's like to win a postseason game as a professional.
While his team has struggled, Johnson has enjoyed a great deal of individual success. He's on a fast track for the Hall of Fame with five straight Pro Bowl appearances. Megatron is currently on pace to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh time over the course of the last eight seasons.
The Lions are running out of time to put together a championship-caliber team with Johnson in the fold. This year's 1-7 squad certainly isn't the one, and he's already 30 years old.
