Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick exited Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders with a left hand injury on New York's opening drive. Fitzpatrick was replaced by Geno Smith and later ruled out.
The injury occurred after Fitzpatrick avoided a sack and scrambled for 12 yards before sliding in front of a Raiders defender. It appeared as though Fitzpatrick's left hand got caught on the defender's jersey.
After leaving the game, Fitzpatrick spent a good amount of time on the sideline with the team's training staff and had his hand wrapped, though he wasn't taken to the locker room for X-rays. At halftime, coach Todd Bowles said Fitzpatrick has a ligament issue in his hand, though Bowles didn't elaborate on how long it might sideline the quarterback.
Entering the game, Fitzpatrick had completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,472 yards and 11 touchdowns with seven interceptions. His lack of turnovers had played a big role in leading the Jets to a 4-2 start entering Week 8.
