FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson has returned to practice after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Richardson was back with the team Monday following the Jets' bye-week break and coach Todd Bowles says he will play in New York's home game against Washington on Sunday, although his role is uncertain. Bowles wants Richardson to get back into ''football shape'' and adds that rookie Leonard Williams will continue to see regular playing time despite Richardson coming back.

Richardson could face additional discipline from the league later this season or next after his arrest on charges of resisting arrest in Missouri in July. His next court hearing is Nov. 9.

Richardson says the suspension was ''real difficult'' and adds that he ''brought it on myself.''
