Surprise early returns: Lockett wins NFC Special Teams monthly honor

Seattle Seahawks rookie receiver Tyler Lockett was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month on Thursday.

The honor took Lockett by surprise - mainly because he didn't know the award existed.

"I never knew that they actually did anything like that," Lockett said per the Seattle Times. "The first person that told me about it was Doug Baldwin, and he was just like, congrats rook, and I was like, what did I do this time?

"I thought I did something wrong. But then I ended up looking on Twitter and then I saw it, and I mean it was a great feeling."

Lockett erupted onto the NFL scene by returning his first punt 57 yards for a touchdown in a season-opening loss at St. Louis. He set a franchise record on Sunday by taking back a kickoff 105 yards for a kickoff.

A third-round draft pick out of Kansas State, Lockett joined Joey Galloway (1999) as the only players in team history to earn monthly special teams honors.
