St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher pointed to a pretty simple reason why his team struggled offensively for the second straight week.
"Our issue is third-down offense," Fisher told reporters Monday after the Rams were limited to a pair of field goals in a 12-6 home loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
St. Louis converted only 2-of-10 third-down chances against the Steelers after making good on only 2-of-12 opportunities in that area during a 24-10 setback at the Washington Redskins in Week 2. Consequently, The Rams rank dead last in the NFL in total yards (274.3) per game.
"The points will increase once our drives increase," Fisher said. "We just haven't had the opportunity with the drives. And really, it all circles around the third-down efficiency. We're just not converting third downs."
Fisher said he's confident the Rams will improve in that area, but he knows it must happen soon. St. Louis' next two games are on the road against the Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers - the two highest-scoring teams in the league.
"We've got a lot of work ahead of us. So we're moving forward," Fisher said.
