Browns likely to start McCown against Titans if he practices

BEREA, Ohio (AP) Browns coach Mike Pettine says quarterback Josh McCown will likely start Sunday's home opener as long as he practices Friday.

McCowan was hurt last week against the New York Jets. Under the NFL's concussion protocol, he can't practice until Friday at the earliest.

Pettine will base his decision on whether to start McCown or backup Johnny Manziel against Tennessee on ''how practice goes.'' Pettine says if McCown is medically cleared he doesn't see why, ''barring anything unforeseen,'' he wouldn't play.

While McCown recovers, Manziel is working with Cleveland's starting offense. Manziel replaced McCown in the first quarter last week. He threw a touchdown pass but also had three turnovers.

Pettine says McCown missing practice is not a major issue because Tennessee's defense is similar to New York's.
