The New York Jets announced on Tuesday that they have released former fifth-round offensive lineman Oday Aboushi.

Aboushi was suspended for the first game of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He started 10 games at guard for the Jets last season after Brian Winters went down with an injury.

Aboushi is a capable backup and showed that last season, but he clearly wasn't in the Jets' plans, even after serving his suspension. He did not count towards the 53-man roster while serving his suspension, so the move does not open a roster spot for the Jets.
