Daily fantasy sports companies eye breakout NFL season

BOSTON (AP) The daily fantasy sports industry is eyeing a breakout season.

The new NFL season begins in earnest Sunday and the industry's two most dominant companies, Boston's DraftKings and New York-based FanDuel, are seeking to cement their standing.

They're touting lucrative opening week prizes in a bid to draw new customers.

But major tech and media companies Yahoo and CBS are entering the fray. Experts say their entry could herald a sea change in the still-evolving market.

DraftKings' CEO Jason Robins, says he doesn't view the new rivals as a threat.

Cal Spears, CEO of RotoGrinders, an online community forum for daily fantasy players, says opening week is critical for companies to lock in new customers.

Yahoo, meanwhile, says it has an advantage because of its already sizeable, season-long fantasy sports audience.
