After previously being reported that free agent quarterback Matt Flynn would work out for the New York Jets on Friday, it appears as though he only took a physical.

The report comes from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who said Flynn was brought in to take a physical "to examine ailing hamstring."

The Jets are reportedly in no rush to sign a quarterback as they would like to get rookie Bryce Petty more work. That will be difficult to do with Ryan Fitzpatrick and a veteran such as Flynn on the roster, as well.

Adding a quarterback isn't a necessity as of now, but if Petty continues to struggle throughout the preseason, he won't be a viable backup for Fitzpatrick. Having an experienced veteran will be key in the case that Fitzpatrick gets injured or doesn't have success.
