The New York Jets reportedly worked out one receiver on Monday, and signed another. According to Manish Mehta, the Jets are signing undrafted rookie wide receiver Austin Hill, who participated in the Jets' rookie minicamp as a tryout player.
While at the University of Arizona, Hill went through an up-and-down career. He redshirted as a freshman in 2010, but didn't breakout until 2012. That year, he caught 81 passes for 1,364 yards and 11 touchdowns, good enough to be named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to college football's top receiver.
In 2013, Hill tore his ACL, which was a huge setback for his development. NFL.com's scouting report of Hill says he is "noticeably slower since his injury," as shown by his pro day 40-yard dash numbers (4.62 and 4.57 seconds).
A big receiver at 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, Hill has the potential to make plays -- he just has to stay healthy. For the Jets, he may just be another training camp body, which already has plenty at the wide receiver position.
