U.S. woman's gymnast Alicia Sacramone, the winning team, will not compete at the world gymnastics championships due to a torn Achilles tendon.

She suffered the injury during a training session on Thursday.

"I am so disappointed to not be able to compete and be a part of this team's competitive success," said Sacramone. "This is an incredibly talented and wonderful group of girls and I have great confidence in their ability to go out and represent the United States to the best of their ability."

According to U.S. team physician Dr. Larry Nassar, she sustained her injury while attempting a tumbling pass at training. She's expected to have surgery on Monday.
