Valencia, Spain – Roberto Soldado's 87th-minute penalty kick 1 draw with Chelsea at the Mestalla on Wednesday in Champions League Group E play.
After being held to a 0-0 stalemate by Genk to open the competition, Valencia fell behind 1-0 to a Frank Lampard goal in the 56th minute when he fired home a first-time shot from Florent Malouda's pass.
Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves made a number of quality stops after halftime to keep his team within a goal, and the saves proved vital as the home side was awarded a penalty kick three minutes from time.
Salomon Kalou entered the match for Chelsea in the 83rd minute, but he handled the ball inside his own area on a corner kick, giving Soldado the opportunity to beat goalkeeper Petr Cech from the spot.
But Chelsea still had one final chance to claim all three points in the final minute when Nicolas Anelka was played in on goal, only for the striker to shoot directly at Alves.
Chelsea still tops the group with four points, while Valencia has claimed a point from each of its first two games.
Barcelona 5, BATE 0
Minsk, Belarus - Lionel Messi scored two goals as Barcelona rolled to a 5-0 win over BATE on Wednesday to join AC Milan at the top of Group H.
An own goal by BATE's Aliaksandr Valadzko in the 18th minute put the Spanish giants in front and Pedro doubled the lead four minutes later.
Messi then tallied a goal in each half to stretch the lead to 4-0 before David Villa scored his second goal of the competition in the 90th minute to cap the scoring.
Arsenal 2, Olympiacos 1
London, England - Arsenal jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening 20 minutes and held on for a 2-1 victory at home over Olympiacos in Group F.
The Gunners were held to a draw by Borussia Dortmund to open the competition but got off to a great start with goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andre Santos after 20 minutes.
The Greek outfit pulled a goal back from David Fuster midway through the first half, but Arsene Wenger's team held on to move into second place in the group, while Olympiacos has lost its first two games.
AC Milan 2, Viktoria Plzen 0
Milan, Italy - Second-half goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio Cassano helped AC Milan to a 2-0 win over Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday in Group H play at the San Siro.
Ibrahimovic converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute that put Rossoneri in front, and Cassano notched Milan's second goal 25 minutes from time to give his team four points from two games, while Plzen is left with one point.
Marseille 3, Borussia Dortmund 0
Marseille, France - Two goals from Andre Ayew helped Marseille to a convincing 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, giving the French side two wins from two games in Group F.
Ayew opened the scoring after 19 minutes and Loic Remy doubled the advantage just after the hour mark.
Ayew then added his second goal of the game from the penalty spot to put the result away.
Shakhtar Donetsk 1, APOEL 1
Donetsk, Ukraine - Group G has a surprise leader after two rounds of matches as APOEL sits atop the table after a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.
Ivan Trickovski put APOEL ahead in the 60th minute, but his goal was canceled out within three minutes by Jadson for Shakhtar, giving the Ukrainian team its first point of the competition.
Zenit 3, FC Porto 1
St. Petersburg, Russia - Zenit got two goals from Roman Shirokov in a 3-1 home victory over FC Porto on Wednesday in Group G.
James Rodriguez put Porto ahead in the 10th minute, but Shirokov responded in the 20th to level the match.
Porto's Jorge Fucile then received his second yellow card in first-half stoppage time, allowing the Russian club to snatch two goals after the break to claim all three points.
Shirokov tallied his second goal in the 63rd minute and Danny scored nine minutes later to wrap up the win.
Bayer Leverkusen 2, Genk 0
Leverkusen, Germany - Bayer Leverkusen moved into second place in Group E after a 2-0 triumph over Genk on Wednesday.
Lars Bender put the German side ahead midway through the opening half, and Michael Ballack secured the win with a goal in stoppage time to give Leverkusen three points from two games.
Genk has recorded one point to sit on the bottom of the group with the Belgian side failing to score in two matches.
