Florham Park, NJ – The New York Jets have reduced their roster to 53 players, as mandated by the NFL by making two trades and waiving 26 players.
The Jets acquired guard Caleb Schlauderaff from the Green Bay Packers for an undisclosed conditional draft selection. Schlauderaff was taken in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by Green Bay.
The Jets also received a draft pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for safety Dwight Lowery. He was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2008 draft and played three seasons for the Jets, recording 92 tackles and two sacks in 43 games.
Notable players that were waived by the Jets include receiver Scotty McKnight from the University of Colorado and receiver Patrick Turner out of the University of Southern California.
McKnight, 23. played in three preseason games for New York, making one catch for 14 yards and a touchdown. He was a walk-on at Colorado, but finished his career holding the school's all-time records for receiving touchdowns with 22 and receiving yards with 2,521.
Turner, 24, was signed to the Jets practice squad in December of 2010. He enjoyed a solid college career at USC, and finished second on the team in receiving yards with 569 during his junior season in 2007.
In addition to McKnight and Turner, New York waived the following players: tight end Josh Baker, linebacker Matthias Berning, receiver Michael Campbell, guard Trevor Canfield, tackle Pete Clifford, receiver Dan DePalma, center Robby Felix, defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert, running back Chris Jennings, linebacker Eddie Jones, guard Matt Kroul, guard Dennis Landolt, safety Byron Landor, cornerback Ellis Lankster, linebacker Joey LaRocque, tackle Nevin McCaskill, safety Davon Morgan, cornerback Julian Posey, linebacker Brashton Satele, center Zane Taylor, defensive end Lorenzo Washington, quarterback Drew Willy, safety Tracy Wilson and tight end Keith Zinger.
