Top seed Peng Shuai withdraws from Texas Tennis Open

China's Peng Shuai, who was installed as the top seed of the inaugural $220,000 Texas Tennis Open, withdrew from the tournament Monday due to a left hip injury.

Peng withdrew just a couple of hours before she was supposed to play American wild card Melanie Oudin. Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan replaced Peng in the main draw.

Fifth-seeded German Sabine Lisicki breezed past India's Sania Mirza, 6-3, 6-0; and No. 6 seed Shahar Peer of Israel dominated Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus, 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round of this final tuneup for the U.S. Open.

In another first-round encounter, Great Britain's Elena Baltacha defeated Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 6-2, 6-1 on the hardcourts at Hilton DFW Lakes Hotel.

This week's winner will collect $37,000.
