Ryan Shannon has signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay as the Lightning continue to restock depth at forward after some key losses.
Shannon, a 28-year-old native of Darien, Conn., had 11 goals and 27 points in 79 games for the Ottawa Senators last season. He has 31 goals and 87 points in 260 career NHL games with Ottawa, Vancouver and Anaheim. The deal is reportedly worth $625,000.
He also appeared in 11 postseason games during Anaheim's Stanley Cup run in 2007. Shannon was an undrafted free agent in 2005 after four years at Boston College. Shannon has represented the United States at the 2003 world junior championships and at the world championships in 2009 and 2011.
The Lightning made a surprising run to within one victory of a Stanley Cup Final appearance last season, but lost postseason hero Sean Bergenheim and top-six forward Simon Gagne via free agency. Tampa Bay signed right wing Michel Ouellet, who last played regularly in the NHL for the Lightning in 2007-08 and spent last season in Germany, as a free agent on July 1.
Tampa Bay still has a pair of key restricted free agents, Steven Stamkos and Teddy Purcell, who are without contracts for next season.
