NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount on Tuesday for inappropriate conduct in arguing an umpire's call last Friday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Manuel lost his temper, gesticulating wildly, in disputing the first base umpire's ruling that Luis Castillo was out at first base on a close play in the second inning and was ejected from the game.

Manuel will serve his suspension during the struggling Mets' game Tuesday night against the visiting St Louis Cardinals, Major League Baseball announced.

Bench coach Dave Jauss will fill in for Manuel for the Mets, who have lost nine of their last 11 games and trail the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves by 7.5 games.
