Outfielder Melky Cabrera avoids arbitration with the Braves

Toronto, Canada – ATLANTA (Reuters) - Outfielder Melky Cabrera and the Atlanta Braves avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Although financial details were not disclosed by the club, local media estimate the deal to be worth $3.1 million.

Cabrera, a 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic, was acquired by the Braves from the New York Yankees in a multi-player trade on December 22 that sent Javier Vazquez to the World Series champions.

The switch-hitter, who can play all three outfield positions, has hit .269 with 36 homers and 228 RBIs in 569 career games.
