The campaign finance bill is being pushed by Senate Democrats as a counter to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which ruled that corporate funding of independent political broadcasts cannot be limited under the First Amendment. To date, the bill is shy of the 60 votes it would need to overcome a filibuster.
