President-elect Barack Obama and his family plan to move to Washington, D.C., this weekend, after spending the holiday season in Hawaii.

A transition official told FOX News that Obama will return so he can work on an economic recovery plan with Congress. The president-elect also returns to Washington as violence rages in the Gaza Strip between Israeli and Hamas forces.

The Obama family will stay at the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington until Jan. 15. From there, the transition official said the incoming first family will move into the Blair House, the president's official guest home, and later the White House. Inauguration Day is Jan. 20.

"The president-elect will also be here for the beginning of school," the aide said.

The Obamas have chosen a private school for their two daughters, Sasha and Malia.
