A young mom has revealed why she won’t baby-proof her home – and insists kids should “learn from their mistakes."

Abby Plested lives in Auckland, New Zealand, with her husband, Dan, and their two children, Houston, 3, and 3-month-old Goldie Grace.

10 REASONS YOU CAN'T LOSE THE BABY WEIGHT

Plested, 23, who runs the lifestyle blog Honey We Are More, has given a candid insight into her unconventional parenting methods.

Discussing how she keeps her Pinterest-worthy home looking so beautiful, she told Stuff.co.nz: “Don’t baby proof. Let them learn and they won’t do it again.”

Her modern home is filled with bohemian-inspired decorations such as giant cacti, large wicker pots, and hanging Moroccan baskets.

Plested told Daily Mail Australia why she has never installed certain safety features.

“Sure there is a place and a need to baby proof some parts of your home however, I think you can get over the top with it,” she said.

“I have never put baby gates up in my home or stairs because I think it’s important for the baby to learn boundaries without these.

“Yes, it means you have to watch your baby more but you are most likely doing that anyway.

“For example, I have cactus in my house, and Houston touched it once and he will never go near them again. Trust me.”

However, there is one item Plested won’t have with kids around the house.

“I would love a glass dining table, but it’s just not practical with two young kids,” she told Stuff.

“All the stickiness and fingerprints would actually make it look far worse than its potential to look good.”

Plested does, however ensure, that all of her mirrors, cupboards and shelves are properly attached so there is no danger of them falling.

Her home is filled with DIY projects she has curated herself, and it is decorated using a palette of vibrant, funky colors.
