$1.5 Million Dress Gets $350 Makeover

 (Magnum Ice Cream)

It’s safe to say we’ll only ever encounter one $1.5 million, 24-karat gold gown in our lives, and that time came back in April, when we sat down with Zac Posen to talk about the gilded, beyond-glamorous design he created for Magnum Ice Cream’s new Gold?! bar.

But while actress Caroline Correa was the lucky one who got to don that dress (with bodyguards on hand, no doubt), now the rest of us gold-diggers can get in on the action with Posen’s more accessible replica.

Magnum has teamed up with Rent The Runway to curate the “As Good As Gold” collection, a lineup fully kitted-out with glimmering metallics from Issa, Badgley Mischka, Rachel Roy, and more, as well as statement accessories by the likes of Alexis Bittar and Oscar de la Renta.

It’s live now and ready to shop, but of course the pièce de résistance is the Zac by Zac Posen gold sequined gown, which has a retail value of $2,990, but will only be available on RTR for a rental fee of $350. We were even talked in to trying it on ourselves yesterday at their press event, and let’s just say we have never felt more like a living Oscar statuette (that’s a good thing).

Check out both the original and replica versions and if you can’t get enough gold, read our interview with Posen, plus take a gander at a line of 24 karat lingerie, and Carine Roitfeld’s all-gold runway show.
