Woman with cerebral palsy types novel with 1 finger

At 21 years old, a Chinese woman has already become a published author— for the autobiography she typed with one finger, Central European News (CEN) reported.

Liu Yiu, of Rugao City in east China’s Jiangsu Province, was born with congenital cerebral palsy, a neurological disorder that affects body movement and muscle coordination.

Yiu’s education ended after middle school, and she is unable to care for herself due to her debilitating condition.

Her only moveable digit is the forefinger of her left hand, which she used to type the 150,000-word final draft that was later edited to 130,000 words when published.

“The publication of the book is just the first step,” Yiu told CEN. “I plan to go further and publish more in the future.”

Liu has been compared to Christy Brown, the cerebral palsy sufferer who typed his book, “My Left Foot,” with the toes of his left foot.
