The Graham County Schools are closed Friday and scrapping all after-class practices, games and events. The roughly 1,000 students attending the Robbinsville elementary, middle and high schools were also told to stay home Thursday.

The school district says it took the step in hopes of breaking the chain of transmission of multiple flu cases.

Classes are expected to resume on Monday. Education officials are telling parents to send their child to school next week only if they are free of fever or vomiting for 24 hours.
