Director Paul Feig on His New Comedy 'Spy'

When it comes to comedy, few people know more about the subject than Paul Feig. As the director, writer and producer of some of the funniest titles in the genre, Feig has had a hand in such classics as "The Heat," "Bridesmaids" and "Freaks and Geeks," just to name a few.

Now, he's written and directed the hilarious new espionage-comedy "Spy" starring Jude Law, Rose Byrne and frequent collaborator Melissa McCarthy.

"She's a dream," Feig tells FNC entertainment correspondent Michael Tammero of McCarthy. "We have such a shorthand. I barely need to, you know, kinda [direct her]."

In addition to "Spy," which opened at the top of the box office last weekend, Feig is also working on the next installments of two beloved franchises: He's serving as a producer of the next animated "Peanuts" film, and directing and writing the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot. In the process, however, he's become the target of some unwarranted criticism.

"Just give me a chance," he asks of any wary "Peanuts" and "Ghostbusters" purists. "And if you don't like it, then you can — you know — be mean to me."
