The story line was ahead of it’s time, but when Carol and Susan got married on "Friends," network bosses were bracing for huge audience backlash.

One of the show’s co-creators Marta Kauffman says while the wedding between Ross’ ex-wife Carol and her girlfriend was given the green light, big measures were put in place to deal with the fallout.

“Oh, oh, don’t even. I don’t know how many ways we can say no,” she said.
