J Sutta Aims to 'Shock People' on New Album
J Sutta, formerly of the Pussycat Dolls, is striking out on her own with risky new album
As an ex-member of the Pussycat Dolls, J Sutta is no stranger to catchy choruses and sizzling choreography. But now that she's gone solo, she's taking her music and her moves in a new, and sometimes shocking, direction.
"I really wanted to take risks, because I don't want to do things that people expect," says Sutta of "Feline Resurrection," her forthcoming debut album. "I just really wanted to take that big risk and really expose myself. Sometimes it's fun to kinda play in that energy …and shock people."
"I like to shock people," Sutta adds, smiling.
It's not just Sutta's music that might come as a shock. The video for one of her newest singles (also called "Feline Resurrection") is just as symbolic and explosively charged, and according to Sutta, it was extremely cathartic to film.
"In front of a camera, I'm a completely different person than I am in front of people," says Sutta in an exclusive interview with FNM. "I feel like I can just be larger than life."
If fans couldn't tell from the album's title, "Feline Resurrection" also signifies something of a new beginning for Sutta, who left her former group after suffering an injury back in 2009.
"I was on tour and I broke my rib," explains Sutta. "It was a big, eye-opening experience for me, and I would say it broke something inside of me that really made me want to venture off and pursue my dreams to be a solo artist."
"And it was one of the best decisions of my life," adds Sutta. "I've grown so much as an artist, and especially as a woman. [But] I'm very grateful for my experience with the Pussycat Dolls. It was amazing."
