Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is fighting back at ex-girlfriend and former Playboy Bunny Holly Madison after she slammed Hefner in her new book, "Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny."

Madison claimed in the book that her time at the mansion was a “nightmare” prompting Hefner to respond.

“Over the course of my life I’ve had more than my fair share of romantic relationships with wonderful women,” the Playboy said in a statement to FOX411. “Many move on to live happy, healthy, and productive lives and I’m pleased to say remain dear friends today. Sadly, there are a few who have chosen to rewrite history in an attempt to stay in the spotlight.”

Madison said in her book that the Bunny life was not as exciting as it may have seemed.

“Everyone thinks that the infamous metal gate was meant to keep people out,” Madison continued. “But I grew to feel it was meant to lock me in.”

Hefner, 89, concluded in his statement: “I guess, as the old saying goes: You can’t win ‘em all.”

Hefner married Playboy centerfold Crystal Harris on 2012.
