The dress that dominated the Internet is back with a surprisingly serious message, thanks to the South African Branch of the Salvation Army.

The white and gold (or is it blue and black?) frock was featured in an ad the Salvation Army posted that showed a woman covered in bruises. Beside her it read, “Why is it so hard to see black and blue?”

About a week ago the a photo of a dress like the one the Salvation Army shared went viral when a woman asked her Tumblr readers what colors they saw when they looked at it. She wrote, "Guys please help me - is this dress white and gold, or blue and black?" And the Internet went berserk, leading families, friends and Facebook users to debate and discuss why the dress appeared white and gold to some and blue and black to others.

Scientists then explained why the dress was viewed differently by different people.

But in the Salvation Army’s post, the color of the dress isn’t the point. Rather, the ad uses the viral dress to raise awareness about the struggles victims of abuse face.

“The only illusion is if you think it was her choice,” the photo notes. “One in 6 women are victims of abuse. Stop abuse against women.”

The organization tweeted the image with the hashtag #StopAbuseAgainstWomen.
