Maksim Chmerkovskiy is more than familiar with making the news.

But when the "Dancing with the Stars" hunk was linked to Jennifer Lopez last month, the ensuing media crush was was a whole different level for him.

He told NY Daily News’ Confienti@l he now understands why Tinseltown is such a hard place to have a good relationship.

“Two people have to be so strong – and notice I didn’t say ‘in love’,” the 34-year-old Ukrainian dancer said. “They have to be in love, but trust me, there’ve been situations when two people have been really in love, and all of this gets in the way it completely ruins it.”

Rumors of a romance between Lopez, 44, and the reality star dancer blew up last month following news that she ended her relationship with Casper Smart, 27.

The duo was then spotted together at a Connecticut night club, where according to reports they were close all night and seemed very flirty with each other.

Chmerkovskiy, addressing the stories about his relationship with Lopez for the first time, told Confidenti@al, “With the Jennifer thing, look, we’re friends and … we’re friends. This is it. This is where it ends, pretty much.”

According to the website, sources said the two are in daily contact but because of scheduling issues, they don’t spend a lot of time together.

The dancer called the sudden scrutiny into his personal life “unbearable.” But it seems like those close to him didn't offer much sympathy.

“Look, it could be worse, right?” he said. “When we get together, all my friends are like, ‘Dude, I envy you – if this is biggest problem you have in life, good for you.”

That said, though, Chmerkovskiy admits to be envious of couples like Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, who have kept their relationship private for many years.

“I think their relationship is amazing, because it’s so quiet and nobody knows anything about it,” he said. “And so those two people are professional, they’re amazing at what they do, and they’re strong enough to be able to keep it to themselves. That’s brilliant. I envy them and I look up to couples like this.”
