L’Wren Scott spent some time with friends the evening before she committed suicide and while they were concerned, they had no inkling of the tragedy that would happen the following morning.

In a heartfelt remembrance,Cathy Horyn, the former fashion critic of The New York Times wrote, “She was with friends on Sunday night, and yes, they were deeply concerned about her, but, no, they didn’t think she would do something so desperate.”

Horyn had advised her longtime pal who had been suffering business woes to pull back for the sake of her heath. “Just give yourself a break now,” Horyn says she told Scott earlier this year.

However she doesn’t think Scott’s imminent announcement that she was closing her business was the reason for her untimely death.

“As painful as the decision must have been for her, I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from it about her state of mind. Nor should any credence be given to reports of a breakup with Mick. It’s rubbish.”

Scott is described as an incredibly hard working, disciplined woman who “didn’t talk about her friends or clients…She had firm boundaries, and they applied equally to her relationships and confidences.” Maybe that’s why so many actresses stuck with her: Nicole Kidman, Ellen Barkin, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianne Moore, Christina Hendricks.

Ultimately Horyn is baffled by the loss, describing her death as “inexplicable.”
