America has voted, and the Top 10 “Idol” hopefuls are ready to sing for their lives.
Lazaro Arbos and Devin Velez are part of a select group closer to becoming the next “American Idol.” The two will now be part of the “American Idol” summer tour. Sadly, for Queens native Tenna Torres, the road to Hollywood ended Thursday night.
“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest said that 39 million voters helped determine the contenders who will move on to the final and tougher rounds of the competition.
In a new twist, Seacrest announced the finalists backstage, but kept the judges and the audience in the dark until the chosen, one by one, stepped out onstage to perform a song.
Arbos and Velez are up against Paul Jolley, Burnell Taylor, Curtis Finch Jr., Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Angie Miller, Amber Holcomb and Kree Harrison.
Aside from Torres, singers Vincent Powell, over-the-top performer Zoanette Johnson, Breabba Steer and Aubrey Cleland were all sent home packing.
One of the most emotional parts of the show was when Seacrest informed Arbos he earned the last spot in the Top 10.
Arbos, 21, who looked overwhelmed and happy, was welcomed with a standing ovation when stepped onstage. His parents were also in the crown cheering.
The Cuban-American singer decided to perform “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” the same song that got him a golden ticket to Hollywood the first time he auditioned a few weeks back.
“Every time you get on the stage, you seem to have grown,” said pop diva Mariah Carey. “America is watching and they love you.”
