Is Selena Gomez going to be the next Miley Cyrus?
Gomez sat down with Fox News' "Fox and Friends" Wednesday morning to talk about her upcoming album, "When the Sun Goes Down," and her new movie, "Monte Carlo."
And as with every Disney star in their late teens, the conversation soon focused on graduating from Disney to a grown-up life. A recent Newsweek article claims Gomez' good-girl, Disney image has been tarnished because of her new, more adult music and her relationship with singer Justin Bieber.
Gomez disagreed.
"I have the right to live my life and I feel that I have done a good job with my position," she said. " I should be able to grow up."
Gomez, 18, said that she had much more creative control over her new album, and conceded that the lyric content was "cheekier" and "something different for me," but stresses that it is still all in good taste.
"I wanted to vamp it up without it being ridiculous," she said.
But she said she isn't doing a Miley Cyrus and completely rejecting her good-girl past.
"I have finished with Disney Channel, but that does not mean that I want to completely disown the fact that I do have a younger generation looking up at me," she said. "I feel like I've done the best I can. If I make my family proud and if I make my fans proud that's all that matters to me."
And as far as the dating rumors with Justin Bieber go....
"It's just nice to have someone who understands what you're going through," she said.
