Is Alec Baldwin heading into politics?
"The answer is: Yes, it's something that I am very, very interested in," Baldwin told Spitzer in an interview to air on Wednesday's Parker Spitzer. "People would say to me all the time, 'Why would you want to do that?' And sometimes I don't want to do it because to leave what I am doing now would be extremely painful."
At 52, Baldwin — who has said he would retire after 30 Rock ends — said he's finally beginning to understand the craft of acting and loves where his career currently is.
"To quit now when it really feels good and doing it feels good would be an enormously difficult thing to do," he said. "However, I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle class ... would like to seek public office."
Baldwin said that he wants to see elected leaders "who have not lost sight about what the middle class in this country is." And despite his success in acting, he said that "whatever I've accrued in my career doing that — it hasn't changed me as a person."
The actor has expressed his political aspirations before. In 2008, he told 60 Minutes that running for office is "something I might do one day." He reiterated his interest to Playboy last summer."The desire is there; that's one component," he said. "The other component is opportunity."
